South of the Border!!

August 28th, 2008.  South of the Border, South Carolina.  Best place on earth.

Andy was practicing for when he saw a real alligator.  Clearly he’s unprepared.

 

Andy wants to be just like Pedro.

Caitlin just wants to be held.

 

She searched and searched for this hippo.  She was practicing for all the hippos she was bound to see in the Everglades.

Andy loves a larger-than-life cock fight.

Caitlin has a very similar picture of this from when she was younger and they used to stay here.  Maybe if we all clap our hands really loud, her mom will find the picture for us!

So, even though we love South of the Border, we realize that is highly problematic in it’s representation of Mexican people and culture.  We are very interested in knowing who first created South of the Border and what the original goal was.  In addition to the many Pedros and Mexican culture dispersed, there was an Africa Shop.  We found this to also be very problematic; however, there was a sign that we found very interesting.
